Bocoran Lorenzo : Yamaha Itu Jika Terlalu Dipush Malah Lambat

Yola dulur yang budiman…. masih soal wawancara dengan Jorge Lorenzo. Sepertinya Jorge lorenzo sangat blak-blakan, bloko suto soal kondisinya sekarang. Termasuk perbandingan antara Ducati dan yamaha yang sangat berbeda 180° karakter ridingnya. Jika ducati itu suka main kasar, maka motor yamaha sebaliknya, kudu lemah lembut gaya ridingnya. Jika terlalu dipush maka malah menjadi motor yang lambat.

Lorenzo mengatakan bahwa motor yamaha harus diperlakukan lemah lembut, smooth untuk mencapai performa maksimal. Jika gaya riding agresive, kasar maka justru reaksinya melambat. Doi mencontohkan pembalap seperti ben Spies, Pol espargaro yang kesulitan dengan motor yamaha. Mereka berkarakter agresive, awalnya fine-fine saja, tapi pada akhirnya kesulitan. Motor yamaha harus berada di tangan pembalap yang kalem seperti Colin edward atau Valentino Rossi, atau dirinya yang punya karakter kalem… finesse.

With the Yamaha, if you’re pushing too hard, you go slow. We’ve seen it in many cases, like with (Ben) Spies who did well early on but then had a difficult time, or with (Pol) Espargaró, who is a very aggressive rider which hinders him from going fast. The riders who have gone faster with the Yamaha have been finesse riders…(Colin) Edwards, Valentino or myself. With the Yamaha, what you have to do is slow down a bit in the beginning, because the bike doesn’t allow you to brake neither very aggressively nor very late, and get off the brakes early and open the gas early.

Motor yamaha itu harus melambat sedikit lebih awal, dia ( motor ) ngga mau direm secara agresive atau late braking, dan melepas rem lebih cepat saat keluar tikungan disertai buka gas lebih awal. Distulah poin utama keunggulan motor yamaha M-1. Nggak heran kita mengenal sirkuit karakter yamaha, honda dan lain-lain…. karena tipe motor memang punya keunggulan masing-masing.

Sedangkan karakter motor desmosedici ducati itu full power, tapi kebo. Ini berkebalikan 180º dengan karakter motor yamaha. Motor Ducati harus mengerem lebih lambat, lebih agresive mengerem, dan menyeimbangkan weight transfer agar motor tetap stabil. Rem belakang harus difungsikan, agar ban belakang sliding. Ini sangat bertentangan dengan motor yamaha, dimana rem belakang nyaris tidak pernah terpakai. Agar ban belakang tetap sliding, setelah menerempun, gas harus dibuka agresive di area pertengahan tikungan. Dengan motor yamaha, dijamin tidak akan berhasil. Digambarkan seperti biasa main bola gaya offensive, dan kini harus bermain di liga Itali yang mengutamakan difensive.

Terakhir, ketika disinggung gaya riding vinales yang menggunakan latebraking tapi tetap bisa cornering lebih cepat, Lorenzo berkata :

With the Bridgestones, the truth is that I reached a very high level, but with the Michelin it was very inconsistent. It depended on the tires they gave me and the track conditions; I didn’t get to be as regular as with the Bridgestone. Viñales instead is consistent at all the circuits and it’s because he knows how to use the rear brake. I didn’t use it with the Yamaha, it wasn’t as necessary as it is with the Ducati, for example, but Viñales does, and that helps him not to weight the front so much. Braking only with the front is very effective, and in water, for example, this is very good because you brake with both wheels. I wish I had understood this trick and applied it on the Yamaha, because I could have slowed down later and I wouldn’t have always had that handicap under braking. Surely last year I lost because of that. For Maverick, at the moment it’s necessary to start well, and it costs him to catch the pace in the first few laps. But I think he’s a great rider, mainly because of his rear brake technique, and is more complete than I was last year.

Dengan ban Bridgestone, lorenzo merasa apa yang dicapainya adalah level sangat tinggi, tapi dengan michelin dia meras inkonsisten. Vinales sangat konsisten di semua sirkuit karena dia tahu bagaiomana cara menggunakan rem belakang, yang mana tidak pernah lorenzo lakukan saat bersama yamaha. Dengan rem belakang, bobot tidak sepenuhnya tertranfer ke ban depan. Ini sangat bagus saat kondisi track licin saat hujan. Diakui bahwa Vinales adalah pembalap besar tehnik rem belakangnya, dan diakui lebih komplit daripada lorenzo tahun lalu.
